Amigos Por Vida-Friends for Life Housing and Education Corporation, (APV-FFL) has named Mr. Justin Fuentes M. Ed. as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools. This decision was made at the February 17 meeting of the Board and concludes a seven month long thorough review process that attracted interest from exceptional leaders from across Texas. Fuentes, currently serves as Chief of Schools/Chief of Operations at Raul Yzaguirre School for Success (RYSS). Fuentes is a seasoned educator whose experience spans the classroom as a secondary Mathematics teacher, as a school principal and as a district C-suite leader. He has been recognized as a USDOE Blue Ribbon principal, opened three new schools at RYSS over three years, and increased the number of A-rated campuses at RYSS from 1 to 5 in 2025.
“We are confident in our decision as a Board that Fuentes reflects the mission and values of APV-FFL,” said Board President Rose Mary Valencia. “Throughout this process, we were intentional about selecting a leader who complements our existing leadership team, understands our APV-FFL community, and prioritizes student academic achievement.”
Fuentes’s career spans more than 28 years in education with 23 years in District leadership roles, 11 years in high-level cabinet member roles and 8 years as a principal. He received his Bachelor of Science-Mathematics/Minor: Secondary Education degree from the University of Houston in 1999, and achieved a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Houston in 2003.
In accordance with state law requiring a 21 day waiting period, at its March 24th meeting, the Board may officially vote to employ Fuentes as Superintendent of Schools. The search process was conducted by The K12 Search Group, which guided trustees through a comprehensive and thoughtful superintendent search.
