Good afternoon, 5th–8th grade parents,
Please note that Deputy Philip will be visiting our campus to hold an assembly with our students on March 16th,2025. During this presentation, he will speak about several important topics listed in the flyer above. Students will also be bringing a copy of the flyer home as a reminder.

Learn how to assemble a pre-prepared wooden toy using a jig and hammer, then use paint to give it a personalized design!
Our generous collaborators at WCH have spent months preparing for this event—one of our most popular! —by tracing car patterns on wood, cutting them out with a band saw, drilling holes for the windows and wheel axles, routing them, and sanding the cars on a belt sander. Supplies are limited, so come early to build and decorate your car, then test it out on an on-site ramp and race your friends!

Parents, I encourage you to have conversations with your children and to assure them that there is support available when we go through difficult situations and that everyone goes through challenges, changes, and difficult situations in life, but that we must learn to develop positive and healthy techniques that support us to grow with a healthy mind and a healthy body.
Self-Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) is observed annually on March 1st in the U.S. and globally to increase education, reduce stigma, and support those struggling with self-harm. It promotes understanding that this behavior is a sign of emotional distress, urging awareness and empathy.

CDC Return to School / Fever-Free Guidelines
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
🩹 When to Stay Home
• Students should stay home if they are sick with symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or other symptoms that could spread illness or prevent participation in school activities.
🌡️ Fever-Free Rule
• A child **can return to school when they have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medicine) for at least 24 hours.
• “Fever-free” means no fever without the use of medications like acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen.
👩⚕️ Other Considerations
• In addition to being fever-free, the person should:
• Be well enough to participate in school activities.
• Have other symptoms improved (like cough or congestion) — according to local health policies

AMIGOS POR VIDA-FRIENDS FOR LIFE
SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS LONE FINALIST ANNOUNCEMENT
Amigos Por Vida-Friends for Life Housing and Education Corporation, (APV-FFL) has named Mr. Justin Fuentes M. Ed. as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent of Schools. This decision was made at the February 17 meeting of the Board and concludes a seven month long thorough review process that attracted interest from exceptional leaders from across Texas. Fuentes, currently serves as Chief of Schools/Chief of Operations at Raul Yzaguirre School for Success (RYSS). Fuentes is a seasoned educator whose experience spans the classroom as a secondary Mathematics teacher, as a school principal and as a district C-suite leader. He has been recognized as a USDOE Blue Ribbon principal, opened three new schools at RYSS over three years, and increased the number of A-rated campuses at RYSS from 1 to 5 in 2025.
“We are confident in our decision as a Board that Fuentes reflects the mission and values of APV-FFL,” said Board President Rose Mary Valencia. “Throughout this process, we were intentional about selecting a leader who complements our existing leadership team, understands our APV-FFL community, and prioritizes student academic achievement.”
Fuentes’s career spans more than 28 years in education with 23 years in District leadership roles, 11 years in high-level cabinet member roles and 8 years as a principal. He received his Bachelor of Science-Mathematics/Minor: Secondary Education degree from the University of Houston in 1999, and achieved a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Houston in 2003.
In accordance with state law requiring a 21 day waiting period, at its March 24th meeting, the Board may officially vote to employ Fuentes as Superintendent of Schools. The search process was conducted by The K12 Search Group, which guided trustees through a comprehensive and thoughtful superintendent search.

Parents, we kindly ask for your cooperation in following the procedure for picking up your children who are walking home.
While in line, please remain in your designated spot and avoid saving a place for someone who arrives later; this disrupts the line’s flow and is unfair to those who have been waiting.
Furthermore, the time spent picking up your children should not be used for discussions with teachers; if you wish to talk to them, please send a message via ClassDojo and arrange an appointment.
Lastly, parents, please follow the line rules. It is not fair for certain parents to skip ahead when they have not joined the line, as this is disrespectful and may create tension with those following the guidelines.

Good evening wonderful parents!
School has been canceled for Monday January 26th due to the winter storm coming in.
Just some advice so you remain safe:
Let all of your faucets drip a little bit (turn it on the hot water for this) until the freeze passes. A high water bill is nothing compared to replacing plumbing. Dripping water will prevent a pipe bursting and flooding your home.
Open all cabinets to allow air to circulate and keep pipes above freezing. Again to prevent a pipe bursting.
Do NOT use a stove to keep your house warm. This could cause a house fire or gas poisoning. Use a safe space heater or propane powered heater such as this one
https://www.walmart.com/ip/55234301?sid=fdb080cd-25d3-4189-85f4-1360680c7de1
If your water is shut off and then turned one again, boil all water BEFORE you use it to drink or cook.
Buy canned goods that are easy to eat and don’t expire soon. Check the expiration date.
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DO NOT DRIVE! Unless you really have to, please stay off the roads. Roads will be very icy and you can’t see a patch of ice that could lead to a crash. Trust me, been there done that, not fun!
Just stay home, enjoy your time off and snuggle with your loved ones and pets.
Stay safe! Love y’all!

Good afternoon, Parents
January is the month designated for raising national awareness about Human Trafficking.
Human trafficking refers to a societal issue that involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to secure labor or a commercial sex act. Each year, millions of individuals, including men, women, and children, are trafficked globally – and this also occurs in the United States. It can affect any community, and victims can be of any age, race, gender, or nationality.
This week, we are focusing on increasing awareness about Human Trafficking, and today, we held our first parenting session. Regrettably, parent attendance was relatively low. Parents, I encourage you to participate in this week’s sessions.
Please review the video that was presented during our session this morning. I hope you find it useful.
