New World, New Solutions

Are you finding transitioning into this new life challenging? You are not alone. Since our world has been turned upside down, we are all finding new and creative ways to adapt to the changes. As quoted by the great Greek philosopher Plato, “Necessity is the mother of invention.”

We are now in a position where we have new needs and the lack of resources normally provided, therefore we have to “invent” new ways to address these needs. Our basic needs aside (food, shelter, clean water) we all need to continue to work if we can, and we must continue to learn and challenge our minds. Where does that put students and teachers?

Teachers and students alike have continued to educate and to learn in new ways throughout the past several weeks, and not all of it has been virtual. My family has decided to try and grow what vegetables we can to create less of a need when grocery shopping and, therefore, less time in close proximity to other people. We have also been more creative with dinner recipes. Many of my students have spent their extra time creating new art and helping their families come up with solutions to problems such as making masks for everyone. Creating art allows your mind to expand to places you did not know existed, and it has been a helpful outlet for many people during this time of struggle. Whatever life throws at us, we must keep learning, keep creating, and keep hoping for a better tomorrow.
